2011 Wamogo Lacrosse

Wamogo Lacrosse General Information

2010 – 2011 Inaugural Wamogo Lacrosse Season

Coach’s Philosophy:

Involvement in any sport should be enjoyable for both the student athlete as well as their parents. Coaches, players and parents are responsible for self discipline with the understanding that that success often requires individuals to sacrifice.

2011 Anticipated Practice Schedule:

Conditioning practices will start the week of March 14th (most likely Tuesday the 15th and Thursday the 17th). I expect the practice to start at 5:15. These practices will be conditioning only (no sticks or balls). We will run sprints in the gym and discuss the overall season and expectations. I will be timing players on the 40 yard dash. Be prepared to run.

Per CIAC rules, starting the week of March 21st the team will be able to start full practices. I anticipate a week of indoor practices followed by full field practices.

Coach’s Background:
Coach Swan:

Played organized competitive lacrosse at the middle school level in Westchester County, NY.
Continued playing organized competitive lacrosse while attending prep-school in North West Connecticut, where I was the team captain my senior year. Coached 3 years (’08-’10) with the Litchfield Hills Youth Lacrosse Organization, coaching seniors along with the High School Club Team.

Coach Touponse:
Has coached 3 years with the Litchfield Hills Youth Lacrosse Organization, coaching seniors (7
th and 8th grades)

Coach Porter:
Has coached 5 years with the Litchfield Hills Youth Lacrosse organization in the youth boys programs.

Expectations of Players:

Attitude / Respect: All team members will be respectful and   considerate while displaying a positive attitude towards teammates, coaches, umpires, opposing players/coaches and parents.

Conduct: Players will conduct themselves properly and in a well behaved manner while representing the team both on and off the playing field.

Playing Time: Playing time will be determined by the coaches. Coaches will base playing time on a player’s abilities, attitude and commitment to the team.

Drugs and Alcohol: Use of alcohol and drugs are prohibited. More information located here.

Emotions: All players are expected to control their emotions and display good sportsmanship during practices and games. Treat teammates, coaches, opponents, and umpires with RESPECT.

Participation: Players are expected to attend all practices. Prior approval is required by the head coach to be absent from a practice. A phone call, text message, or email to the head coach is required when missing a practice at the ‘last minute’, along with a valid reason for missing practice.

REMEMBER: ‘You play as you practice’. Practices are critical to our team’s success.

Equipment: It is the player’s responsibility to make sure their equipment is in ‘playing shape’ along with making sure all equipment is brought to each practice and game. Uniforms must be clean and each player must look presentable for all games.

Compliance: Athletes who are not in compliance with the team rules are subject to consequences at the discretion of the head coach. Consequences may range from not starting a game to dismissal from the team.

Uniforms: Team home and away jerseys will be supplied to the athletes. You will sign for the uniforms before the first game and be responsible for the cleaning and general maintenance of the uniforms.  Players will be financially responsible to reimburse the program if any jersey is not returned at the end of the season.

Helmets/Shorts: Players are responsible for the purchase and upkeep of a NOCSAE certified lacrosse helmet. Red is the preferred color, white is the programs second choice. Wamogo Lacrosse Booster Club has purchased quality helmets and the helmets are available for $155 through the Booster Club. Game shorts will be purchased from the program at the beginning of the season for $15. The program will use one red pair of shorts for both home and away games. Please contact coach Swan with any questions regarding helmets or shorts.

Cellular Phones: Cellular phones are permitted at both practices and games, but will be turned OFF during practices and games. Cellular phones will be used on an ‘as needed’ basis only. Cellular phones will not be allowed on the field for any practice or game, and will be left in the athlete’s equipment bag during practices and games.

Water: The team has six large water bottles which the coach will fill and bring to practices and games. It is the responsibility of the athlete to bring their own water ensuring they have enough water for proper hydration for both practices and games.

Nutrition: It is the responsibility of the athlete to eat balanced and nutritious meals coming to both practices and games well ‘fueled’ and ‘hydrated’. The coach will provide general nutrition handouts during the parent / coaches meeting.
